If you identify as a student of color attending the Fay Jones School of Architecture+Design, RISE wants to help you with $500.00 in supplies and materials you will need for your studio class! (Estimated 5 individual awards are available)
Do you have a financial need for assistance?
Are you from an underrepresented demographic?
Have you contributed to your community's diversity, equity, or inclusion?
If you said yes to any of the above, you are eligible to receive this award! All you need to do is submit a short essay based on the prompt below. You will be required to show proof of enrollment if selected as an award recipient. This award can only be used at the University of Arkansas Campus Bookstore. More details will be provided once the winners are selected.
Designing spaces that foster inclusivity is essential in creating environments where everyone feels welcomed and valued. In this essay, reflect on the role that architecture can play in promoting inclusivity, especially for underserved or marginalized communities. Share your personal experiences or observations that have shaped your understanding of inclusive design. How can architects ensure that their designs serve diverse populations? Finally, explain how receiving this scholarship would support your journey in making these visions a reality, and how you plan to use your architectural education to advocate for inclusivity in your future work. (limited to 500 - 800 words).
A good essay will:
Reflect personally
– Share a meaningful experience that shaped your perspective on inclusivity and why it matters to you.
Explain inclusivity in architecture
– Show that you understand what inclusive design means and why it’s important for underserved communities.
Offer a clear vision
– Describe how you plan to use architecture to make spaces more welcoming, equitable, and community-centered.
Connect to your goals
– Explain how receiving this scholarship will help you pursue your education and impact the field of architecture.
